What is Chinese New Year?

Today, this festival can be held by Chinese communities. Lion dance, dragon dance, temple exhibition, shopping in the flower market, etc. are just a few of these colorful activities.

On the eve of the Chinese New Year, people clean their houses to get rid of all kinds of pollution and impurity. They decorate their homes with poem, lanterns, vases and new furniture and shop for food for the celebration.

New Year is an important occasion for family gathering, so those who live or work away from home return home before the holidays. This ceremony in China is now known as Chun Yun.

Family gathering, food and drink are an important part of New Year celebration. Family members sit around a large table to eat New Year’s dinner together. This is known as Nian Ye Fan.

Chinese families burn incense to worship their ancestors. Elder family members present money to younger ones in a red envelope known as Ya Sui Qian.

At midnight of the Chinese New Year, people celebrate the beginning of the new year by throwing loud firecrackers. On New Year’s Day and a few days later, friends come to each other’s houses and wish each other happiness.

Decoration is a big part of Nowruz celebration in China. People spend a lot of time decorating their homes and surroundings to welcome the gods of wealth.
