The airport was initially built in 1330, named “Mashhad Airport”, with the cooperation of Iranian and foreign engineers and specialists. For four decades since its establishment, it has continually been expanding and growing. During its early years in the 1330s, it was a small airport without advanced equipment, operating a daily flight to Tehran and conducting training flights.
In the 1340s, a new runway was added, and the airport was equipped with two large runways. Over time, and with the increasing number of flights and the arrival of large-bodied aircraft, several parking areas, terminals, a flight control tower, and auxiliary buildings were inaugurated in the airport by 1357.
Many of these structures were semi-complete when they began operation. After the imposed war (Iran-Iraq war), the airport’s renovation and completion project was carried out, and the airport continued its operations under the new name “Shahid Hashemi Nejad.”
In the domestic terminal of the airport, you can check the flight information board to view flight times and other necessary details, such as flight number and any delays or early departures. This board is located opposite the inspection area and various sections in the domestic hall.

To enter the domestic flight hall from the metro station, you have about a 5-minute walk.

Using Line 2 of the Mashhad Metro To reach the airport using Line 2, if you’re coming from Tabarsi or Koohsangi, you can take Line 2 to the Shariati station. From there, you can transfer to Line 1 of the Mashhad Metro to go to the airport.
